UN International Day for the Right to the Truth: Activists around the world demand the execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr to be revoked and call for his freedom.

The timing of this globally coordinated event coincides with “The International Day of the right to know the truth” with respect to gross violations of human rights and respect for the dignity of the victims, which is sponsored by the United Nations.

The international organising committee launched a campaign invite cities over the worked to participate at the event, and this global event comes more than 5 months after Sheikh Al-Nimr was issued the death sentence by the Saudi authorities, despite his peaceful demands for reforms for the rights of Saudi citizens.

The organisers report that more than 20 countries will participate in this globally coordinated International day in solidarity with Sheikh Al-Nimr.

This protest event, comes after a series of events that have been regularly held since his arrest on July 8, 2012 and there was a sharp  increase since the issuance of the death penalty.

It is worth mentioning that the Saudi forces used live bullets during Sheikh Al-Nimrs violent arrest, where he sustained injuries and had four bullets from close range lodged in his left thigh, and which were only recently removed on 02.17.2015. As a result of medical negligence by the detaining authorities he has an inability to walk normally.

The aforementioned  United Nations day  aims to facilitate the administration of justice and truth in practices that target activists who have dedicated their lives for the defense of human rights and against grave violations.
